Faithfulness is downplayed in today's world, but it is one of the most important qualities we could demonstrate. My husband and I decided before our first child was born that we didn't want strangers raising our kids. That was in 1970. He was the breadwinner because men made more money in the marketplace than women did. I was the hands-on parent. I stayed home and raised my children. It was the smartest thing we could have ever done. He was a wonderful Dad. He died 3 weeks before his 35th birthday. Car accident. Devastating for all of us. But with Social Security Survivors's benefits I was still able to stay home with the kids. Best decision I ever made. My son had two uncles who stepped up and fathered him throughout his growing up years. As Jeff Prather says, boys are born. Men are trained. My daughter has her Master's degree in Social Work and her areas of employment are hospice and kidney dialisis patients. End of life stuff. My son sells produce to the local supermarkets and has done that for most of his working life. He and his wife have 3 rentals, all paid off. Family home paid off. Beautiful cabin in the mountains where they go almost every weekend. We never know if we're successful parents until we see our kids raising their kids. Grandkids are doing great. I have no college education. I did not have a career that I can put on a resume. But I have a wonderful family that has turned out rather well. The kids and grandkids are faithful to their commitments. That counts for a lot in my book. That has made them successful.
We have had our share of heartache. My granddaughter was in a lawnmower backover accident when she was 3. She has one leg. My brother is on hospice right now. His wife and son were in a headon collission this week with a lady who was driving in the wrong lane at 50 mph. They have broken bones but are otherwise okay. Both cars were totalled. We have the usual things that we've faced and lived through, but what I see is the faithful hand of God. And I thank him every single day.
