When canned soup goes on sale, buy extra. They say canned goods expire, they do not, they may lose potency, but they are air tight. I had lost my job a few years ago, we were down to 1 paycheck, I would shop only the sales at the grocery store, and then plan my menus around that, it worked out pretty good, we ate really good, and it was a lot cheaper. Also if people join a meat subscription, many out there, you lock in your price for food at the time of joining, and it stays that way the entire time you are a member, and they have sales monthly for great prices, we use Butcher Box, grass fed and it tastes amazing. We were hard core preppers under Obama, and since then I have slacked, but still have a lot of the food, 25 year shelf life. Also people can grow lettuce, veggies, etc. with out a lot of room, you can grow vertically, raised beds, and even in water without dirt, Disney does it and its pretty amazing. Humans are resilient, we make it through everything as long as we rely on God, and have no fear. I quit getting scared, there is nothing to fear, just prep, plan and execute that plan. Canned food already has liquid, and you will not want to pour it off. Dried beans and rice need lots of water for washing, soaking and cooking. Will you have plenty of water? White rice keeps better than brown rice. They say the dried beans keep forever but I have had to throw a lot of it out (even with good storage practices) because it would never cook completely, even with a pressure cooker. The old beans could probably be planted, but there you go needing plenty of water again. The sooner you start stocking up, the better. You will have more on hand and you will save money because the price will only rise.
Yeah, beans do not keep forever, almost impossible to cook old beans. For water it is a good idea to get a Life Straw, and other filtration devices. Good filtration when you do not live by natural springs is a must! Oats also keep well if they are packaged correctly.
