The things you learn throughout life and one of them is demanding pain meds whenever you have surgery of any kind. I tell them I have a very low pain threshold and need to be able to sleep. Next, don't use them all if at all possible. I don't abuse the pills, but I am stocked up in the event some obscure unexpected pain and or problem happens on a Friday at 6:00 PM right after urgent care closes. Avoiding the ER is paramount. Becomes second nature after 70 plus revolutions around the sun.
Wise advice, make sure you are going to have a prescription for a good painkiller before agreeing to surgery. And insist on a refill order as well. Pain is so subjective and health care providers are far too often suspicious about painkillers because they think patients are “abusing” the pain meds.
Their painful times will come, but not soon enough to expect any compassion from the younger prescribers.
I hope you manage to figure out how to control your pain well enough that you can sleep.
