One honorable mention deserves your attention. The Name of the Rose (1986) stars Sean Connery as a former inquisitor sent to investigate murders at a medieval abbey. Christian Slater plays his novice, looking about fifteen years old. The film adapts Umberto Eco's novel into something dark and suffocating. Erotic. Grim. Soaked in symbolism and sin. I won't spoil the central mystery, but it revolves around people willing to murder for forbidden knowledge. Connery brings gravitas to a detective story wrapped in theology. The abbey feels like it's rotting from within. Watch it if you haven't. It understands that faith and fear often sleep in the same bed.
In case anyone seeing this has no idea what we are talking about:
‘A knight returning to Sweden after the Crusades seeks answers about life, death, and the existence of God as he plays chess against the Grim Reaper during the Black Plague.’ (From IMDB)
One of the greatest achievements of European film mastery in the history of cinema. Stark. Grave. Like fingernails grinding across a chalkboard at times with how uneasy it makes you feel.
The title of this one is in correct, "The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)" it should be, "The Assumptions Of Christ."
From studying the scriptures about Jesus, the conclusion is, He was born from a virgin, that means He was not conceived in the natural order of things. It was by the Holy Spirit that the miracle of pregnancy was achieved.
Therefore Jesus was different from mere men, if He could withstand the devil for 40 days in the desert, He could have withstand any temptation before it even became complete thoughts in His mind.
The demons knew exactly who He was, and they feared Him, read the story of the man who was possessed, where Jesus commanded the demons to come out of him.
There was a man named Ron Wyatt who says that he found the Ark of the Covenant, and that on the mercy seat there was what looked like this brownish red substance that he was able to get a sample of.
He took it to a lab in Israel to have it analyzed, they found 23 chromosomes from the mother, and one Y chromosome from the father's side. Plus, the lab person told him that the blood was alive, and they asked him whose blood is it, and he replied, it's the Blood of your Messiah.
Ron Wyatt passed on, and he never recounted any of his discoveries, I always believed him, because the evangelical world wouldn't even give him the time of day, until recently, when Noah's ark was rediscovered, because Ron Wyatt had already found Noah's Ark back in the 80's.
So you believe this guy found the Ark of the Covenant AND the Mercy Seat AND the 10 Commandments (since they are inside the Ark) and instead of reporting his findings to the world and going down in history as the greatest biblical archaeologist in the history of the field, he just decided not to? Oh and he found Noah's Ark too... I really hope you don't buy that bs. Why would Christ's blood be on the Mercy Seat anyways? The Ark was lost long before he was born. None of what you are claiming makes any sense. I mean, believe whatever you want but we do actual biblical scholarship here. This isn't just some ancient aliens pop slopshow.
Was I arrogant in my comment like you? Why take offense, I thought you were civil, but it's not looking that way. The scriptures speak of people behaving badly as we approach the end of the age of grace.
Also, I have shared a few of your past articles.
The reason you may not have heard about this is like I mentioned in my first comment, the evangelicals never gave him the time of day until recently, and you are not up to date, Noah's Ark was discovered back in the late 1940's or early 1950's.
Thanks for the great read! I recently watched the Korean Netflix film Revelations (2025) and found its exploration of how Christians blur the boundaries of what “revelation” means really thought-provoking. The same director also delves into the idea of heaven and hell in his earlier Netflix series Hellbound (2021).

Great article! Have you considered "The Seventh Seal" of 1957 by Bergman. An absolute masterpiece!
Oh wow… how did I miss that one?

I gotta watch this one. My grandma told me about it years ago but I never got around to actually watching it.
I actually DID read the entire article and liked watching The Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston. So much so, in fact I named one of my favorite main fictional characters after him: Summer Chastity Crowe©™®(Nee Sylvester Charlton Crowe©™®).
Yea. I’d like to see a Jonah movie. With the details of each verse in it.
