I saw the propaganda they were disseminating, the sales room and the caging room where the money was counted, stacks of it. Looked more like a drug money-laundering op than a charity. I had little kids at home and needed a paycheck but I couldn't reconcile the job with my conscience. I couldn't make it through even one day. Quit. Ah, well, back to the job hunt!
Good for you! That is such a disturbing image. The last time I went inside a “church” it was a Catholic one next to a hospital they owned (for profit, by the way). I wanted to speak with the priest about a few passages in Scripture I had questions about. I sought him out—an elderly Black man—and began quoting Scripture. He had no idea what I was talking about. I even said something in Latin, and he didn’t understand. When I asked if he spoke ecclesiastical Latin, he had no clue what I meant. At that point, I asked if he even believed in God, or if he was just there because it was an easy job with an air-conditioned office. He just stared at me, blank. It was like he had no opinion, no knowledge, nothing. I haven’t stepped foot in a church since. I realized most organized churches are just jobs for the people working in them. They don’t truly believe in or care about God—they only care about making easy money off people they likely see as gullible for their faith.
